Book Insights

Below is a sample of some of the books we will be reviewing and providing out insights.  If you have a book you would like reviewed, please let us know with an email, jcarter (at) teambuildingactivity.com

We have spent thousands of dollars purchasing books, then spending thousands more re-purchasing many of them again for the Kindle version (what a racket, but we LOVE our Kindles).

I want to pass along the best of the best to you so if you want to build your own library, you know what to buy.

A very simplistic model that is also very intuitive, the 5 Dysfunctions of a Team actually describe the 5 Functions.  But no one would buy that book!  We have used the principles in this book with hundreds of teams and sold tens of thousands of books over the years – should have asked for commission!  The book is THAT good.

We use the principles in this book with thousands of people every year, mostly in small groups of executives.  This book provides a concrete idea of how trust can be identified, developed and used as a tool to change your team, your organization and even your life.  We LOVE this book.

Book written by our founder James Carter that covers how to tap into your emotional strength, develop the strength and draw upon it during your time of need.  If one thing is certain, we will need our emotional strength at some point.

Opening Doors

We have used this book many times for groups as ground rules and as a method to begin deeper discussion.  Opening Doors is a very simple book to understand  and very easy to use.

We have used the change principles in Switch to make small and large scale changes in teams and organizations with great effect.  In fact, we have connected our research, the ABC’s to the principles in the book to help you create change in your team.

Co-authored by our founder, James Carter, this is the first publication of what we learned about legendary people and focuses on the ABC’s of creating a life that matters – Awareness, Beliefs and Courage.   You can download the entire book or chapter.

play-to-win

Play to Win is an amazing book that proposes the premise for two valid ways to live your life – Play to Win and Play Not to Lose.  Most people do not intentionally choose either but simply live, rolling through life.  This book will help you make that choice.
